Get Yonder

Use your computer's terminals, files and desktop from anywhere. Install Yonder on the computer you want to reach, then open it from your phone or any browser.

On the computer you want to reach

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

  1. Unzip it and double-click Install Yonder. No administrator needed.
  2. Your browser opens: create your account, then scan the code it shows with your phone.

Windows may warn that the app is unrecognised (it is not signed yet): choose More info › Run anyway.

Mac

Apple silicon (M1 and later), with Homebrew: terminals and the yonder command need it.

  1. Open the download, then Control-click Install Yonder and choose Open. If Open isn't offered, use System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway. It offers to install tmux and ffmpeg with Homebrew if they are missing.
  2. Your browser opens: create your account, then scan the code it shows with your phone.
  3. For the desktop: allow Yonder in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, and › Accessibility.

Linux

64-bit, with systemd. Pick your distribution's package.

  1. Install: sudo apt install ./yonder-linux-amd64.deb (or sudo dnf install ./yonder-linux-x86_64.rpm, or sudo pacman -U yonder-linux-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst). It turns itself on for you.
  2. Your browser opens: create your account, then scan the code it shows with your phone.

On the same Wi-Fi, nothing else is needed: on the computer, choose Allow phones on this Wi-Fi. To reach it from anywhere, use Tailscale (free): install it on both and sign in. The installer offers to set it up when Tailscale is already on; otherwise the page on the computer shows the one command to run.

On your phone

Android

  1. Open the downloaded file and allow installing from your browser when asked.
  2. Tap Add a PC and scan the code on the computer.

iPhone

The iPhone app isn't public yet. Use Safari for now.

  1. In Safari, open your computer's Tailscale or tunnel address and sign in.
  2. Tap Share › Add to Home Screen so it opens like an app.

Safari can't open the same-Wi-Fi address: that one is pinned for the Yonder apps. Use the Tailscale or tunnel address instead.

Joining someone else's computer

If someone invited you, they'll show you a QR code (System › People › Make an invite). Scan it with the Yonder app, or open its link in your browser: it signs you in as yourself. In Settings › Your account you can then set a password, so you can sign in with your name on other devices.
